Celebrating Khmer New Year A Time for Reflection and Renewal

Happy Khmer New Year

From April 14th to 16th, Cambodians across the country will come together to celebrate the Khmer New Year, also known as Choul Chnam Thmey. This important holiday marks the end of the harvesting season and the beginning of a new year, and it is a time for reflection, renewal, and celebration.

One of the most important customs associated with the Khmer New Year is to participate in the Angkor Sankranti or Bathing the Buddha ceremony. This ceremony involves pouring water over Buddha statues as a symbol of purification and renewal.

The Khmer New Year is also a time for families to come together and enjoy traditional foods. Cambodians prepare a variety of dishes, such as Kralan, a sweet rice cake cooked in bamboo tubes, and Somlah Machou, a sour soup made with fish and vegetables. Families may visit each other's homes to share these dishes and exchange gifts.

In addition to the customs mentioned above, the Khmer New Year is also a time for games and entertainment. Cambodians will participate in traditional dance performances, live music, and games such as tug-of-war and wrestling. These activities bring people together and add to the festive atmosphere of the holiday.

At the heart of the Khmer New Year is a spirit of reflection and renewal. Cambodians take this time to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead. They make offerings to their ancestors and seek blessings for a prosperous and peaceful future.

As the Khmer New Year approaches, we at Cambodian Zulite Stone quartz factory recognize the importance of this holiday and the significance it holds for our employees and the wider community. We encourage everyone to take this time to celebrate their traditions, spend time with loved ones, and reflect on the past year. May the Khmer New Year bring joy, prosperity, and peace to all who celebrate.
